A Typology for Urban Landscape Progression: Toward a Sustainable Planning Mechanism in Kano Metropolis, Nigeria

The significance of urban landscapes in the current era concern for a sustainable built environment can never be overemphasized. study explores landscape features and typologies some environments within Kano to understand management effectiveness metropolitan area. At least two wards were purposively selected each from eight local government areas due their land use. Focus group discussion (FGD) sessions carried out through with prominent elders “Masu Unguwanni” (village/ward heads) sampled as well direct assessments physical characteristics justify general progression support documentation present future generation. unveils layout typology, scenic points ecological cultural districts. It further reveals that historic forms are degrading time, or rather not following course sustainability, surroundings satisfy immediate needs communities. However, suggests increasing awareness Kano’s preservation 2011 UNESCO proposal implementation on Historic Urban Landscapes (HUL). Then, discourages unhealthy developments Metropolis entire state. also recommends architects part parcel planning schemes controlling regulating development via formal practice allocation, acquisition, building codes, design, construction.
